  • Why Hex Energy?

Our aim is to provide renewable energy systems for properties that would clearly benefit from them. We install, maintain and monitor heat pump and solar systems to ensure smooth operation for years to come.

Our long-term goal is to grow the business into a reliable resource for homeowners, self-builders and local developers, for:

    Ground Source Heat Pumps (GSHP)

    Air Source Heat Pumps (ASHP)

    Water Source Heat Pumps (WSHP)

    Photovoltaic (PV) systems

    Under Floor Heating (UFH)

Mechanical Ventilation and Heat Recovery Systems (MVHR)

There are very few companies in the UK qualified to install ground source heat pumps. Hex Energy is the leading installer of ground source heat pumps in central UK. What's more, we are the only company in the UK to have our own Certified Geo-Exchange Designer, to inspect, design and install a system suited to your needs.

Most companies do not include all elements necessary for a turnkey and bespoke installation and will exclude vital elements, leaving the homeowner to source drilling and gig trenches for example, or add this as an extra. It's not an extra, it is essential to professional installation work that encompasses the entire system.

  • Our Team

    • Andy Howley

The company was formed by Andy Howley, the well-respected consultant and heat pump system designer. Andy became involved in ground source energy in the mid 1990's and subsequently trained and qualified as an International Ground Source Heat Pump Association (IGSHPA) Accredited Installer and Vertical Loop Installer and Certified Geo-Exchange Designer certified by the Association of Energy Engineers (AEE).

Andy is one of only a handful of Certified Geo-Exchange Designers in the UK today and is actively involved in the design and installation of heat pump systems.

As the industry grew, Andy became a founding member of the UK's Ground Source Heat Pump Association and its governing council and the person responsible for forming industry standards as chairman of the training and standards committee. As a result of this, in 2011, Andy wrote and published the GSHPA Vertical Borehole Standards which has underpinned several more standards including the Shallow Geothermal Standard and the Thermal Pile Standard.

Andy was being asked more and more to troubleshoot poorly performing residential heat pump systems and subsequently identified the need for a technically competent installation service and set up the company which became Hex Energy.

    • Simon Maher

Simon has been involved in ground source air source energy in various design and sales based roles since first entering the industry over a decade ago. At Hex Energy, working closely with Andy, he is responsible for undertaking building load calculations, ground loop designs, underfloor heating designs and PV optimisation. Simon is keen to apply an energy efficiency and sustainable ethos to our projects to achieve a considered, designed approach. He also keeps up to date with government policy on renewables and the currently available incentives for our customers.

    • Ernie Wells

Ernie has a degree in Architectural Technology and has a background in house construction within the UK. He has also spent several years living abroad working as a Design Draughtsman for a Mechanical Engineering Consultancy.

At Hex Energy he is responsible for the operations of the business including procurement of materials for projects to ensure they arrive on site or at our HQ as and when needed and as part of his operations role makes all arrangements with clients in terms of programming of projects to ensure they run smoothly. Utilising Ernie's skills as a trained architect and draughtsman, he also produces detailed construction issue drawings to ensure both clients and install teams are aware of what is being installed and to ensure all specifications are met.

    • Steph Cauchi

Steph graduated with a master's degree in textile design before being employed by the university to work on student recruitment, marketing and later lecturing in design before taking a break to have children. She eased herself back into the workplace doing administration and accounts for Andy's business over 10 years ago as general office admin, however Steph's role has developed significantly over time.

Steph now has a very varied role at HexEnergy and deals with everything related to administration and accounts including raising purchase orders, client invoices, dealing with supplier invoices and payments along with company payroll, pension and HR matters.

Steph also ensures that all vehicles remain serviced, taxed, insured and with MOT's and also maintains the training and certification for all of our employee's.

    • Mandip Bhamra

Mandip graduated with a degree in Medical Engineering over 13 years ago and soon after entered the renewable industry as a sales manager for a solar thermal company. He then moved on to become a solar PV surveyor for a company in London and his passion grew for the renewable sector and started incorporating underfloor heating and heat pumps into commercial and domestic projects within this role.

As Business Development Manager, Mandip is proud to offer a bespoke service incorporating Ground and Air Source Heat Pumps, Underfloor Heating and Solar PV, specifically designed and installed to the clients' needs. Mandip's focus is on expanding our network of clients through trade shows, developers, architects and M&E Contractors and to build lasting relationships with all of our clients.

    • Les Morrice

Les has been involved in the Ground Source Energy industry for over 15 years after leaving the military where he was employed as a Water Supply Specialist and Drilling Engineer by Andy covering drilling and geothermal projects worldwide. His experience in drilling for water was easily transferred to the specialist drilling of ground source systems used here at Hex Energy.

Les has adapted his skills over many years in the industry progressing from drilling related roles to full site supervision of open and closed loop drilling projects, trench and lake loop systems. Les also deals with commercial large-scale open loop pump installs and also commercial maintenance and monitoring and optimisation of controls.
