FAQ
Prices for both Ground and Air source heat pumps vary depending on the size of the property and how well insulated it is. However, ball park numbers for a new 3 bed detached house are the following:
- Air Source- £11,000- £13,000 (Before Boiler Upgrade Scheme grant -£7,500)
- Horizontal Ground Source- £23,000- £28,000 (Before Boiler Upgrade Scheme grant -£7,500)
- Drilled Ground Source- £35,000+ (Before Boiler Upgrade Scheme -£7,500)
Horizontal Ground Source Heat Pump: Generally for a new build property you need 4x the footprint of the building.
Vertical (Drilled) Ground Source Heat Pump: This is dependent on the number of boreholes required. Each borehole needs to be around 8m apart from the previous one.
Yes!
When installing a heat pump the design of the whole heating system is vital. This includes sizing the internal emitter system as well as the heat pump correctly. As long as these elements are designed and installed correctly you will have a warm home ands as much hot water as your require at any temperature.
The grant available for residential installations of all heat pump systems is the Boiler Upgrade Scheme (BUS). all heat pump installations are 0% VAT and the BUS is a £7,500 grant when replacing an existing fossil fuel heating system for a renewable system. Or in new builds when a renewable heating system has been chosen over traditional fossil fuel.
Hex Energy is MCS accredited and therefore will apply for the BUS grant on your behalf once the work is completed and commissioned. you will be required to provide an EPC for retrofits and proof of funding and address for new build properties.
Heat Pumps are powered by electricity. therefore the answer to the running costs depends on how much you pay for a kW of electricity.
Ground source heat pumps are the most efficient type of heat pump and a well installed system will give you between 4-5 kW of heat per kW of electricity.
Air source heat pumps will provide between 2.5-3.5 kW of heat per kW of electricity.
As part of our MCS accreditation at quote stage we are required to provide approximate run costs in comparison to your existing fuel.
